Vitamin E (Tocopherol)

Tocopherol · Tocopheryl AcetateAntioxidant

Lipid-soluble antioxidant. Routinely paired with vitamin C — they regenerate each other and each scavenges different free radicals.

What it does

Vitamin E protects the lipid portion of the skin barrier from oxidative damage. The classic combination is vitamin C + vitamin E + ferulic acid (the 'CE Ferulic' formulation), which has stronger photoprotective evidence than any of them alone.

The evidence, graded

strongVitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid show synergistic photoprotection. The combination is more stable and doubles photoprotection compared to vitamin C alone.Lin 2005 · Journal of Investigative Dermatology

Graded per the methodology: strong · moderate · emerging · expert consensus. A weak source on a strong claim gets the weaker label.
