Rosehip Seed Oil

Rosa Canina Seed Oil · Rosa Rubiginosa Seed Oil · Rosa Canina Fruit OilBarrier

Cold-pressed seed oil rich in linoleic acid. The 'natural retinoid' marketing claim is overstated.

What it does

Rosehip seed oil is high in linoleic and α-linolenic fatty acids, plus trace levels of trans-retinoic acid. The 'natural retinoid' claim circulates because of those traces, but the concentration is parts-per-million — well below what's needed for any retinoid-style effect on skin. As an emollient and barrier-supporter it performs nicely; as a retinoid replacement it does not. Best used as a finishing oil over moisturizer at night, especially on dry or barrier-compromised skin.
